Job description
Dear Prospective Headteacher, Thank you for your interest in becoming the Headteacher of Meadowside Primary School, part of the Green Shoots Partnership. This is an important moment in the school's history and an opportunity for an ambitious, talented and compassionate school leader to make a lasting difference to the lives of children, their families and the wider community. We are seeking an exceptional Headteacher who shares our belief that every child deserves an excellent education, regardless of their background or circumstances, and who has the determination, experience and personal qualities to lead Meadowside through its next chapter. Meadowside is a large, two form entry community primary school in Burton Latimer, near Kettering, with approximately 400 pupils and a nursery on site. The school is an important part of its local community, with a strong sense of pride and belonging. Our values of Respect, Responsibility, Reflection and Resilience underpin our aspirations for pupils, both in their academic achievement and in their development as confident, thoughtful and responsible young people. Our School and the Opportunity Meadowside is entering a significant period of change and improvement. We recognise that the school faces considerable challenges, both educationally and financially, but we are equally confident about its potential. Our priority is to appoint a Headteacher who understands what it takes to bring about meaningful and sustainable improvement and who has the vision, experience and determination to lead the school successfully into the future. The successful candidate will provide inspirational, strategic and operational leadership, securing the best possible educational, personal and wider life outcomes for every pupil. Working closely with the Governing Board, staff, families, pupils and external partners, they will build on the school's existing foundations while establishing the high expectations, consistent practice and positive culture needed to secure lasting improvement. Central to this will be creating an environment in which children feel happy, safe, valued and ready to learn, and where staff feel respected, supported and empowered to contribute fully. We want a Headteacher who combines ambition for educational excellence with warmth, empathy and a genuine understanding of the needs of children and families. They will recognise the importance of positive relationships throughout the school community and understand that successful improvement depends upon bringing people together around a shared vision and purpose. The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of the importance of high quality teaching, a broad and engaging curriculum, effective assessment and strong outcomes for all pupils. They will be committed to inclusion and understand how to address barriers to learning, particularly for children with special educational needs and disabilities or those experiencing disadvantage. They will promote high standards of attendance, behaviour and personal development while ensuring that Meadowside remains a welcoming, purposeful and enjoyable place to learn and work. Financial Leadership and Sustainability Alongside the educational challenges, Meadowside faces significant financial pressures, and securing the school's long term financial sustainability will be an important priority for the new Headteacher. Working closely with the Governing Board, school business management and the local authority, they will play a central role in developing and implementing a credible and sustainable financial recovery strategy. This will require sound financial judgement, a clear understanding of the relationship between educational priorities and available resources, and the confidence to make difficult decisions when necessary. We recognise that financial recovery and school improvement must go hand in hand, and we are looking for a leader who can balance these responsibilities while ensuring that the needs of our children remain at the heart of every decision. The Governing Board recognises its own responsibilities in addressing the school's financial challenges and is committed to working constructively with the new Headteacher and our external partners to establish a sustainable future for Meadowside. We understand that this will require difficult choices, careful planning and a shared commitment to making the best possible use of the resources available. The Leadership We Are Looking For We are seeking an experienced and credible school leader who can inspire confidence, establish clear priorities and translate ambition into measurable improvement. Someone who is comfortable taking responsibility, exercising sound professional judgement and making difficult decisions, but who also understands that successful school leadership depends upon trust, relationships and the ability to bring people with them. We want a Headteacher who is visible, approachable and genuinely interested in the people who make up our school community. Someone who listens carefully, communicates openly, recognises the strengths of others and creates opportunities for colleagues to develop and flourish. They will understand the importance of developing leadership capacity throughout the school, establishing clear accountability and creating a culture in which everyone takes pride in their contribution to the success of our pupils. We are particularly interested in appointing someone who has experience of leading school improvement and who can demonstrate how they have raised standards, strengthened teaching and learning, and developed effective teams. They will be outward looking, willing to learn from others and confident in building productive relationships with the local authority, other schools and the wider educational community. Developing the school will extend beyond the classroom. The successful candidate will recognise the important contribution made by all staff. They will ensure that colleagues across these teams have clear roles, appropriate guidance and opportunities for professional development and collaboration, so that everyone is equipped to contribute to pupils’ learning, inclusion and wellbeing, and to the effective running of the school. Above all, we are looking for a leader who believes passionately in the potential of every child and who will uphold our values of Respect, Responsibility, Reflection and Resilience. We want our pupils to leave Meadowside with strong educational foundations, high aspirations and the confidence, knowledge and personal qualities to succeed in their next stage of education and contribute positively to society. What We Can Offer We recognise that this is a demanding role, but it is also one that offers enormous professional and personal satisfaction. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future of Meadowside and make a tangible difference to a school community that deserves the very best. You will be joining a school with committed staff, children who are enthusiastic about learning and families who want the best for their children. You will also be working with a Governing Board that understands the challenges facing the school and is determined to provide the strategic direction, support and constructive challenge necessary to secure improvement. The Governing Board recognises the scale of the challenges facing Meadowside and is committed to taking an active and responsible role in addressing them. We do not underestimate the demands that will be placed upon our new Headteacher, and we are determined to provide the strategic leadership, professional support and constructive partnership needed to achieve both educational improvement and financial recovery. We are committed to ensuring that our new Headteacher has access to appropriate professional development, external expertise and opportunities to collaborate with other educational leaders. We understand the importance of giving school leaders the confidence, encouragement and professional space to lead effectively, while maintaining a shared commitment to accountability and high standards. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine and lasting difference. We are looking for a Headteacher who will see the challenges ahead not simply as problems to overcome, but as an opportunity to build something of lasting value for our children, colleagues and community. Safeguarding Meadowside Primary School and the Green Shoots Partnership are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and recognise that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a thorough understanding of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and best practice, and to promote a strong culture of safeguarding throughout the school. Appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check with children's barred list information, verification of qualifications and employment history, satisfactory references and all other checks required under current statutory safeguarding guidance. Applications and Selection Process We warmly encourage prospective candidates to visit Meadowside before submitting an application. This will provide an opportunity to see the school in action, meet some of our wonderful children and dedicated staff, and gain a better understanding of both the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. We believe that visiting the school is one of the best ways to appreciate its character, its community and the difference that the right Headteacher can make. We would be delighted to welcome you and arrange a visit at a mutually convenient time. The recruitment timetable is as follows: Closing date: Midnight, Sunday 22 November 2026 Shortlisting: Week commencing 23 November 2026 Interviews: A two day selection process during the week commencing 7 December 2026 We are determined to appoint the right person for Meadowside: someone who brings the professional expertise, integrity, energy and commitment needed to lead the school successfully through the next stage of its development. I have always believed that the quality of leadership and governance makes an enormous difference to the opportunities and experiences of children. As a Governing Board, we are ambitious for Meadowside and determined to ensure that it provides the excellent education, care and opportunities that every child deserves. We are looking for a Headteacher who shares those ambitions and who will work alongside us to turn them into reality. Thank you again for considering this opportunity. We look forward to receiving your application and, hopefully, welcoming you to Meadowside. Yours faithfully, The Board of Governors Green Shoots Partnership Meadowside Primary School and Great Doddington Primary School
